Foot Health Practitioners

by admin on November 28, 2011

The state of foot care in the UK is a in a state of confusion. Previously there were chiropodists who were either state registered (and had the appropriate qualification and could gain employment in the NHS) or non-state registered (and just had short qualifications). This all changed with the advent of the Health Professions Council and everyone who considered themselves to be a chiropodist or podiatrist were given registration in attempt to put an end to the public confusion. It then became illegal to use the term podiatrist or chiropodist unless registered. You could only get registered if you have the appropriate qualification. To get around the law, the private trainers created the term Foot health Practitioner and continued to train what was formally an unregistered chiropodist. The Foot health practitioner cannot work in the NHS or use the term chiropodist or podiatrist. The Foot Health Practitioner, however have turned out to be a shady bunch and do what they can to mislead the public. Foot Health Practitioners are widely discussed in podiatry forums.
